Nostalgia: Leeds General Infirmary

Designed by George Gilbert Scott the Great George Street frontage of the Leeds General Infirmary is a magnificent example of gothic revival architecture.
The architect himself seemed to be watching over this couple who were warming themselves in the Waiting Hall in 1925.
Ward Eight was a feast of Victoriana in this photograph with floral decorations, washing ewers and basins and framed pictures.
The 20th Century brought ambulances. The one featured in our slideshow had a bell but was before the invention of the familiar blue lamp.
