Celebrating 30 years in the job normally brings about thoughts of a golden handshake and putting your feet up.

But not for Paul Crossland, group plant buyer at Hayes Garden World in Whinmoor.

He's been chosen from the 130 staff to star in the company's new TV ad.

Tony Hall of Greymatter, which is producing the commercial, said: "We were looking for someone that really stood out from the crowd and would be a perfect person to represent the brand – Paul really shone as the one with the 'X' factor and we think he's going to be a real hit for us."

Paul started with Hayes Garden World in June 1979 aged just 16.

The 46-year-old said: "Hayes Garden World have been a great company to work for over the past 30 years and I've built a fantastic circle of friends and colleagues."

And it's definitely a case of keeping it in the family for Paul.

He added: "My partner Yvonne is a gardener at Hayes Garden World and my 17-year-old daughter works in our Four Seasons restaurant at weekends."

So is he looking forward to being seeing by millions in the new TV ad due out later in the year?

"As long as I don't have to start dancing I'm quite happy to oblige!", he said.
