Cross Gates Watch Residents Association.

CROSS GATES WATCH RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
A residents group which reacts to concerns raised by members within our area to local issues such as new planning developments, parking problems, crime, environmental disturbances. The Association also aims to contribute to broader debates by taking part in the activities of such bodies as Cross Gates Forum.

Association Aims
* To represent and promote the interests of the residents in the area, and to assist in maintaining good relations between all members of the community.
* To improve conditions for the residents in the area
* To work for improvements to the services we receive; and to the local environment
* To work in partnership with other agencies to achieve our aims.
The Association will help promote any charitable aim to further the above objectives; and will endeavour to foster a community spirit in its area . The Association supports no political party.

Membership
Membership shall be open to all residents regardless of age, nationality, political opinion, race, gender, sexuality, disability or religious opinions.
The defined area of the Association covers all dwellings bounded by:
* To the west, the Cross Gates Ring Road (east side) from Barwick Road roundabout down to Cross Gates Station.
* To the south, the railway line from Cross Gates station to the bridge at Barnbow.
* To the north, Barwick Road (south side) until Pendas Way.
* To the east, Pendas Way (west side) down to Austhorpe Road, including the dwellings bounded by Austhorpe Road, the Barnbow estate and the end of Pendas Way.

Cross Gates & District Good Neighbours Scheme.

CROSS GATES & DISTRICT GOOD NEIGHBOURS SCHEME (CGNS)
Aims: A registered charity, part of the city wide Neighbourhood Network for Older People which provides a varied range of services and social activities for older people and their carers.
Its aim is to enable older people in the area to remain independent as long as possible and to remain in their own home.
Membership is open to persons aged 60 and over living in the Cross Gates district. An annual membership fee of £2.00 is payable.
Please contact the office for advice on becoming a member or for volunteering opportunities.

OTHER INFORMATION:
* Coffee Morning Drop In - Tuesday and Friday 10am-12pm an opportunity to call in for a chat, drink and something to eat . Held at the centre in Station Road.
* Befriending Service – for older people who are housebound, lonely , or feeling isolated. We also provide support to those who have been bereaved.
* Advice Service - Available by contacting the office Monday to Friday 9.30am-12pm If necessary home visits can be arranged.
* Gardening and Small DIY Projects – A small charge is made for these services.
* Walking Group – Monday afternoons walks of approximately 3 to 4 miles led by qualified walk leaders. A charge of £2.50 is made if using the mini bus.
* Summer Health Walks – Tuesday afternoons, short walks , largely flat, mainly in Leeds Parks and visitor attractions. Walks are planned for 24th July, 7th Aug, 14th Aug, 21st Aug. A charge of £2.50 is made for the mini bus.
* Tai Chi Class – Tuesday 11.30am-1pm Held at the centre in Station Road. Cost £2.50.
* Extend Gentle Exercise Class – Wednesday 2pm-3.30pm Held at Cross Gates Community Centre Maryfield Avenue, Leeds 15 Cost £2.50.
We also have various other adhoc activities such as theatre visits, fish and chip lunches etc.
We are planning to start an arts and craft group on Wednesday mornings 10am to 12pm led by CGNS volunteers. We also publish a quarterly newsletter.
