Cross Gates councillors Peter Gruen and Pauleen Grahame have welcomed plans for two new CCTV cameras in the community, which they believe will give added peace of mind to residents and shoppers alike.
One camera, located on Austhorpe Road, will monitor the area around the Crossgates Centre and Crossgates Post Office.

The other camera will focus on the shopping centre's front entrance and The Station Public House.

The council-funded cameras will be operated by Leedswatch and are linked directly to the Police Control Room at Killingbeck. It is hoped that the cameras will be in operation by May.

Councillor Peter Gruen (Lab, Crossgates & Whinmoor) said: "I think these cameras are fantastic news for people in and around the centre of Crossgates. We are always keen to improve the safety of the residents of Crossgates in any way we can and this new CCTV system will make a huge difference.

"We have campaigned long and hard for these security cameras and I can't wait to see them up and running. I am sure residents will see a great benefit."

Councillor Pauleen Grahame ((Lab, Crossgates & Whinmoor) said:

"We are aware that community safety is an area of real concern for our residents, and it is an issue we take extremely seriously.

"Hopefully this system will deter potential offenders and gather evidence for police, as well as reducing the fear of crime and improving peoples' safety as they go about their lives."
