An octogenarian pensioner from Stanks was rendered housebound for six weeks because of building works around his home.
Stroke victim Frank Bullock, former lorry driver, of Stanks Drive, needs a wheelchair to get around.

And his relatives were unable to take him out because of a channel dug outside his driveway. They just could not negotiate the hole in the ground.

It has now been tarmacked over following an inquiry from the Yorkshire Evening Post.

Aire Valley Homes are building new private houses next door to Mr Bullock, 82,and along part of Stanks Drive.

A spokesman for the company said: "We only found out about this problem earlier today and have already contacted the building contractors to sort it out."

Mrs Jeanette Bingham, the second eldest of nine children, scoffed: "That statement is absolute garbage. I alerted the builders six weeks ago about the problem and they did nothing.

"My father has been unable to get out of his house. It is an abuse of his rights and has taken away his social contact."

Builders broke up the pavement outside his council house while they were creating a new bus shelter.

"They have only tarmacked the area because I made such a fuss," said Mrs Bingham.

"We are also angry that the bus shelter has been placed right outside his window. Youths will use it as a meeting place. We are now trying to get him re-housed."

Aire Valley Homes added: "Building work will take place in the area until June as part of a major regeneration scheme. We urge people to contact us if any issues arise and we are monitoring the situation daily.

"We are grateful to Mr Bullock's daughter for bringing the problem to us. We are working closely with the contractors to ensure there are no further difficulties."
