Final preparations are being made at Crossgates Shopping Centre for its 40th anniversary celebrations this weekend. Click here for full and final details.
The oldest indoor out-of-town shopping centre in the country will be holding a raft of festivities this Sunday, with music, dancing, local celebrities and lots of fun for all the family.

Sunday's lunchtime extravaganza of entertainment for all the family, aims to highlight the very best of Crossgates throughout the years.

The fun kicks off at 12 noon and runs until 2pm outside Wilkinsons in the centre of the mall.

The Centre's birthday festivities will include a colourful array of acts and personalities, including an appearance by ex-Leeds United footballer Paul Reaney.

A key player for the club in their Division One days during the sixties and seventies, Paul Reaney has lots of free signed footballs to give away, plus some fabulous prizes from Leeds United Football Club.

Lynda Zajicek, otherwise known as Miss Arndale 1972, will return to the stage to relive her days as Cross Gates' very own beauty queen, while the Deputy Lord Mayor of Leeds, Rev Alan Taylor, will also be present to unveil a special plaque to mark the occasion.

Musical entertainment includes 1st Cross Gates Brownies and Guides, who will be singing some of the songs from their recent CD, plus an energetic performance by the ever-popular Jemski Dance Troup. The Tenderloin Ragtime Orchestra will also keep everyone's feet tapping with a colourful array of musical hits from throughout the ages.

In addition, Crossgates Shopping Centre and East Leeds History and Archaeology Society have combined their archives to produce a fascinating and exclusive pictorial insight into the history of one of the oldest shopping centres in the country. This special 40th exhibition will be displayed in the mall from Sunday morning onwards, and is well worth a look.
