Revellers wore vests, flip-flops and plenty of sun-screen to head to Temple Newsam for the 15th annual summer bash, where they were treated to performances from some of the nation's best-loved pop stars.

And although it may have been one of the warmest days of the year so far, the temperature was even hotter on stage, where chart sensations including Scouting For Girls, Alphabeat and Basshunter sizzled in the glorious sunshine.

Boyband McFly were the first act on stage, completing their third appearance at Party in the Park in Leeds by performing a string of hits, including new single One For The Radio and old favourite Obviously.

Swedish DJ Basshunter followed and fans went wild for his wacky dancing, which came to a head when he ripped off his vest to perform track Now You're Gone.

Speaking to the YEP backstage, the star said: "It's amazing to perform in front of such a big crowd because they're so thankful and it's easy to make them scream.

"When you perform in front of small crowds, you have to work more to entertain them. But here in Leeds, the weather is beautiful and the whole place is full of hot girls and party boys so it feels great."

Fans also danced to top acts including Danish pop group Alphabeat – who made it to the show despite losing their luggage on their flight to Leeds – up-and-coming Irish band The Script and solo singers Sandi Thom and David Jordan.

A trio of former X Factor contestants also performed at the event, with 2005 contestant Maria Lawson and Eurovision entrant Andy Abraham warming up the crowd before last year's finalists Same Difference took to the stage. The brother-sister duo, also known as Sean and Sarah Smith, performed their own version of the Scissor Sisters classic I Don't Feel Like Dancing, as well as Breaking Free from hit film High School Musical.
Sean said: "To be here today is a dream come true for us, it's a really amazing feeling."

Chart sensations Scouting For Girls, who reached number one with their self-titled debut album, closed the show with a storming set, including top 10 hits Elvis Ain't Dead, Heartbeat and She's So Lovely.

Before leaving the stage, lead singer Roy Stride – who spent hours
signing autographs and posing for pictures – sensationally dived into the crowd to meet the fans.

Speaking to the YEP, Roy said: "It's great to meet the people who love us because we'd be nothing without our fans.
